Andrew and Bethany’s Grass Room Wedding in Downtown Los Angeles was an incredible way to kick off 2025! I joined the vendor team for their January wedding at the last minute. Our first conversation happening just a week and a half before their big day. They finalized everything with me only a couple of days before the wedding. This made it an unexpected yet exciting surprise that I was so thrilled to capture.
Grass Room is part of Marvimon Productions, which owns several unique venues in Downtown Los Angeles. Grass Room is an industrial warehouse in the Fashion District turned greenhouse. Featuring a ceiling entirely made of glass that floods the space with natural light. With its vintage Hawaii theme, tropical plants, fun wallpapers, and quirky decor—including mounted life size shark figurines—the venue is a true hidden oasis in the middle of Los Angeles. Andrew and Bethany loved how creative and intimate the space felt, providing the perfect atmosphere for their small wedding celebration.
One of the things I loved most about this wedding was how laid-back Andrew and Bethany were about photography and the flow of the day. They simply wanted beautiful, candid moments of their family and friends reconnecting and being with each other. The relaxed pace made for a natural and effortless flow, and Grass Room’s cozy setting made their intimate gathering feel like a warm, celebratory dinner party.
When Bethany and Andrew hired me to photograph their wedding at Grass Room in downtown Los Angeles, I eagerly packed film and digital equipment to ensure I had plenty of camera choices for the day. Right away, film photography at their wedding was a must in my mind, given the varying light and whimsical details at Grass Room. Film photos at weddings always give that nostalgic and creative perspective that feels almost dream-like, especially when your family and friends’ faces are front and center. Andrew and Bethany gave me complete creative control when it came to capturing their wedding. Having that kind of trust and understanding with a couple makes it easy to be their eyes and pay attention to the little moments that I know will later be savored in photographic form!
Bethany’s wedding dress was a dream! After many appointments, she discovered Happy Isles Bridal Salon, a high end vintage wedding dress boutique. The result? Bethany’s one-of-a-kind gown perfectly suited her with a vintage flair, complementing both her personality and the eclectic style of the venue. She looked absolutely stunning, and the way the dress flowed through the lush greenery of the space made for some truly breathtaking shots.
The florals were an absolute showstopper! The Little Branch—a florist I’ve worked with many times—completely nailed the theme for the couple. Meg and her team brought in a mix of intricate, artistic details, from delicate vases shaped like hands to clusters of fresh fruit on the tables. Spanish moss, draping greens, and tiny mushrooms added to the whimsical, collected feel of the decor. Every element felt curated yet effortless, tying the whole aesthetic together beautifully.
One of the most unforgettable moments of the day happened during the wedding ceremony. Andrew had printed his vows in advance, but Bethany forgot to print hers ahead of the wedding. Instead, she brought her laptop to the venue, and when the time came to read her vows, the wedding coordinator realized the mistake and ran down the aisle with laptop in hand. Bethany read her vows right off the screen, creating a hilarious and endearing moment that had everyone laughing. It was such a perfect representation of their fun, easygoing nature as a couple!
They called their vows “promise time,” which I loved! A close friend officiated, adding heartfelt stories and personal touches that made the moment even more meaningful.
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed an intimate dinner party atmosphere, complete with heartfelt toasts, laughter, and a lively dance floor. One of the couple’s biggest splurges was on treating their guests to a highly curated food and drink menu, and it was so worth it! They hired Spotted Hen Catering, and the food was outstanding! It truly felt like a private restaurant wedding experience, carefully crafted just for them and their loved ones.
The evening wrapped up with a romantic dance between Andrew and Bethany, followed by some fun and silly group shots of all their guests. The mix of heartfelt moments and playful energy made for an unforgettable night, and I feel so lucky to have been part of it.
