As a San Clemente wedding photographer, this celebration by the beach gave Brooke and Jean the chance to show off Southern California’s beautiful coastline and stunning weather to all their out of town guests! A true destination wedding for nearly everyone besides the couple, family and friends gathered from all over the country to experience Brooke and Jean’s little slice of paradise. The bride and groom love being outdoors and basking in the sunshine, so San Clemente could not have been a more perfect location for their dreamy wedding day by the beach.

Brooke and her bridesmaids started out the day at a multi-level mansion with 180 degree views of the California coastline. Getting ready with a backdrop of the perfectly clear blue Pacific? Yes please! Butter yellow played a major role in all of Brooke and Jean’s wedding day design choices, so the girls wore matching robes before transitioning into their silk dresses. I personally loved the color choice especially against the blue ocean. Most of what you see here is all candid pictures. These girls are besties and LOVE being together. Playful, fun, welcoming – they made me feel right at home and were having so much fun exploring every corner of the house while we captured some photos.

At the San Clemente wedding venue, Ole Hanson, Brooke slipped into her wedding dress with her mom standing by. Final touches like her earrings and custom garter felt particularly girly and special! When Brooke and Jean finally embraced during their first look, I noticed them both relax. Truly always an advocate for a first look moment before ceremony for MANY reasons. I assume you want to spend the majority of your wedding with your partner? You need a first look. Most ceremonies begin in the later afternoon. You’ll miss out on so much time together if you wait til the aisle reveal. It’s also my experience that couples tend to feel big emotions at both the first look and the ceremony. The ceremony is major, it doesn’t feel any less impactful if you choose to be together in advance!

Ole Hanson thrives as an oceanfront San Clemente wedding venue with a bit of color to contrast all the greens and blues. Brooke and Jean immediately caught on and opted for a pastel-toned color palette with a few bright touches. Bringing in soft yellows and pinks through a color gradient ceremony display really created impact and showed some personality. It felt modern, elevated, but still very coastal to suit the venue! Brooke is such a fun and girly kind of bride. She chose to add bows to the ceremony chairs and selected colorful water goblets with a vintage vibe for dinner time. The ethereal bridal veil accented Brooke’s modern wedding dress, and I also loved the lighter suit choice for all the groomsmen.

As always, one of my favorite parts of a wedding day is photographing moments on analog film. Brooke and Jean’s wedding perfectly suited this tendency. They are both relaxed people, very present and in the moment. They allowed space in the schedule of the day to simply be. Operating at a realistic pace without rushing from event to event is exactly how I like to function with a film camera in my hand. When people slow down, they connect. Those unplanned moments turn out even better on film. I also really loved what we captured at sunset. Adding flash to film with a colorful sky behind equals magic. So romantic and sweet seeing these two frolic on the sand for a few moments!
