Cammie and Ryan had the most fun-spirited Newport Beach engagement photos in the rain. I had such a wonderful time capturing the essence of this lovely couple! They danced around in the rain and truly had the best time despite the non-traditional weather for a photoshoot.  I was so happy to be able to take film photos of them in a unique and very romantic weather setting out on the iconic Newport pier. The rain added a whole new layer of specialness to the photos, and we love how they turned out!

The Couple’s Story

Cammie and Ryan met in college at the University of Southern California. They both were intercollegiate athletes playing volleyball for the university. With a shared passion, they became instant friends. Later after graduating, they rekindled their friendship and quickly realized there was something more- and they started to date! It was lovely to hear about their organic connection and progression into a romantic relationship. The couple will be getting married in the majestic Mammoth Lakes, California in September 2024, and I will be shooting their destination wedding weekend!

Cammie and Ryan reached out to me several months ago to inquire about having me shoot their wedding. They mentioned that they were looking for a creative, artistic and overall awesome photographer to capture their big day. They noted that they did not like posed wedding photography and wanted to organically capture photos in a documentary style way. I was so happy to hear this because it resonates so much with my signature style– and so we got to brainstorming together and drew up romantic ideas for their big day out on the lake! 

Fun fact about the couple and I- we live about 8 minutes from each other and quickly realized after we noticed our  area codes were the same! When we met up in person, we really connected, and I just adored hearing all about their story and what they were dreaming up for their wedding day.  During our meeting they shared that they believed it would be so special if it rained on their wedding day. I loved hearing this unique idea- and so when I saw rain was forecasted for the weekend I called the couple up at the last minute to ask if they wanted to meet me to get some Newport Beach engagement photos in the rain on film at the pier! So here we are….!!!

Singing in The Rain Concept

I had this intense inspiration from films like “Singin’ in the Rain” and “La La Land” and I wanted to use some of the essence from those classics to bring their Newport Beach engagement photos in the rain to life. The combination of the rain and the pier was seriously so perfect and it made us all think about those timeless, romantic films! I really believe that the forecast enhanced the dramatic scene and set the tone for the film photos we captured. Our photoshoot embraced a documentary style, capturing unscripted, genuine moments. The decision to use film was intentional, aiming to recreate the grainy, nostalgic essence of vintage love stories. It was so fun to see the couple frolic around in the rain and truly enjoy each other’s company. I think we drove the entire concept home, and I cannot wait to do another session in the rain!
