This Houdini Estate wedding in Los Angeles was positively magical, just as the name suggests! Jamie and Jon were my final wedding postponement from all the Covid-19 drama. Their wedding was absolutely worth the wait. I photographed this beautiful Houdini Estate wedding in Los Angeles on both film and digital cameras to blend a nostalgic look with a crisp, modern feel. This wedding is featured on California Wedding Day.
The Houdini Estate is a historic property in Los Angeles built in the early 1900s. Famed magician Harry Houdini used the 5-acre home and grounds to perfect many of his illusions including one involving chaining himself up, jumping into a pool, and breaking free of the chains. In addition to now being a wedding venue, the Houdini Estate is available for guests to stay overnight and enjoy the pool and grounds. A Houdini Estate wedding in Los Angeles is truly one of the best opportunities to experience a wedding weekend alongside your family members and friends with unique lodging on site!
Between the bride and groom, they have three children. One of the most fun parts of the wedding was watching so many cute kids running around and hiding in tunnels! I love a kid-friendly wedding. They bring the best energy and carefree attitudes which makes it all feel more relaxed and “in the moment.”

The groom chose to let his son help him get ready for the wedding which made for such a sweet memory. Unfortunately, Jon (the groom)’s father passed away prior to the wedding. Jon chose to wear one of his father’s vintage silk ties in his honor.
Jamie (our bride) completed her look with art deco-style jewelry and glitzy shoes which aligned perfectly with the style of the venue.
The flower girls brought so much silliness to family portraits. Seeing their antics was definitely a highlight. Sometimes the in between moments are way more memorable than the typical smiling at the camera pictures.
The Houdini Estate is built into the side of the Hollywood Hills. With pathways and staircases threading through the venue, there are endless places to stop for photos.
The wedding ceremony space feels very secluded. Surrounded by ornate statues and textured plants, it feels like a garden oasis! Despite the fact that a main road is adjacent, the place is tucked away and private.
The couple opted for the groom’s sister to officiate the ceremony. She pulled very funny excepts from her own diary to read about Jon’s childhood which had the entire group of guests in stitches.
The couple ended the night with a private cake cutting and a roaring dance floor! A full moon hung above us, adding to the romantic ambience.
