The Simpson House rehearsal dinner in Santa Barbara was an unforgettable evening that set the tone for Kelsey and Grant’s wedding weekend. This family-owned boutique hotel, nestled in the heart of Santa Barbara, served as the home base for their wedding weekend. Renting out the entire property, Kelsey and Grant created a private oasis where they could celebrate with their loved ones and enjoy uninterrupted time together.
The hotel became the heart of the weekend’s festivities, offering their family, wedding party, and even their little daughter, Olive, a place to stay and connect. It felt less like a wedding venue and more like a vacation retreat—a space where everyone could relax and truly enjoy the moment.
The Simpson House Inn is full of charm, with beautiful gardens and cozy spaces that perfectly complemented Kelsey and Grant’s vision for their wedding weekend. This boutique property offered everything they needed to create an intimate and welcoming atmosphere. Hosting the rehearsal dinner in the garden meant there was no need for guests to commute. They simply walked from their rooms to the picturesque outdoor dining area, where they were greeted by a stunning setup that felt both elegant and inviting.
The rehearsal dinner featured so many thoughtful touches that reflected Kelsey and Grant’s passion for food, wine, and hospitality. The hotel itself added a unique flair with its daily tradition of serving iced tea, fresh lemonade, and the most incredible scones with jam and cream—an unexpected treat that set the tone for the evening. The dinner setup was absolutely stunning. Beautiful tablecloths, vibrant flowers with little grapes, and glowing candles created an ambiance that felt magical. Guests were treated to a delicious meal under the open sky, surrounded by the lush gardens and warm, welcoming vibes.
After the meal, Kelsey and Grant hosted an outdoor movie night on the lawn, screening The Princess Bride for their guests. With cozy seating, popcorn, drinks, and movie snacks, it was the perfect way for everyone to relax and wind down after dinner. The movie night was open to all their wedding guests who had arrived early, making it a wonderful way to welcome everyone to the weekend. One especially fun moment came from one of the groomsmen who couldn’t attend the rehearsal dinner. He pre-recorded his speech in a hilarious outfit, complete with jokes that had everyone laughing. It was a highlight of the night and perfectly set the tone for the movie.
A unique feature of the evening was the presence of a watercolor artist who created custom portraits for guests. She took photos of guests on her phone and then painted their likenesses as beautiful keepsakes. Starting this activity at the rehearsal dinner allowed everyone plenty of time to enjoy it without rushing on the wedding day, adding a thoughtful and artistic touch to the weekend.
As a photographer, the Simpson House Inn was an absolute dream to work at. Its gardens and hidden corners offered endless opportunities to capture candid moments and beautiful portraits. I loved photographing Kelsey and Grant as a couple, as well as their sweet moments with their daughter Olive. The venue’s natural beauty provided the perfect backdrop for documenting the night’s toasts, laughter, and heartfelt connections.
Kelsey and Grant’s rehearsal dinner was a night of connection and joy. Seeing them surrounded by the people who mean the most to them ahead of their big day was so special to capture. There are so many heartfelt moments, from toast to an incredible meal and thoughtful activities. It is evident that every detail reflected their thoughtful, welcoming personalities. Watching the sunset as the twinkle lights began to glow and laughter filled the air was truly magical!!! The perfect prelude to their wedding day.
