Robin and David’s wedding at The Fig House in Highland Park, Los Angeles, was a heartfelt celebration filled with personal touches, creative details, and the love of their closest family and friends. Held this past August, the wedding reflected not only their deep connection but also their shared background in event production, creating a day that felt both intimate and uniquely theirs.
Robin and David’s story began in 2018, thanks to a group of mutual friends who orchestrated their introduction during a weekend getaway. The friends’ clever matchmaking included a long car ride home from San Luis Obispo, where the couple connected deeply over hours of conversation. From there, their relationship blossomed.
Only a few months into dating, Robin went on a concert tour in Australia and New Zealand. Despite the distance, David flew out to visit her, turning the trip into a shared adventure. Robin, having lived in New Zealand as a teenager, felt like she was returning home, and David’s presence made it even more special. Their shared values, empathy, and love for people solidified their bond, making their wedding day a celebration of all they had built together.
With a background in event production—David works in TV and lighting, and Robin has extensive event experience—they approached wedding planning with a unique perspective. However, their professional expertise came with a challenge: they didn’t want their wedding to feel like work. The couple worried about needing to “be on” like they were at an event they were managing, rather than fully enjoying their day. To ease this burden, they brought on Sarah from Kindred Weddings and Events, a trusted wedding planner known for her calm yet vibrant presence. Sarah’s thoughtful planning and attention to detail ensured that Robin and David could relax and focus on celebrating.
Robin and David curated every aspect of their wedding to reflect their personalities and story. One standout detail was the inclusion of the Cafablanca coffee cart, a beloved feature from TV backlots where David often works. The cart served coffee and tea throughout the night, delighting guests with a nod to the couple’s shared world.
Instead of traditional floral centerpieces, the couple chose a meaningful and sustainable alternative. David’s mother, a talented ceramicist, handcrafted individual plant pots engraved with Robin and David’s initials and their wedding date. Each pot was filled with propagated pothos plants, adding a personal and sentimental touch to the decor. Guests loved the thoughtfulness behind this gesture, which made the reception tables even more special.
Their floral arch and bouquet, designed by Orla Floral Studio, were equally stunning. The arrangements brought a whimsical elegance to the ceremony, complementing the greenery of the venue. For wedding favors, Robin and David chose playful enamel pins, encouraging guests to trade them—a fun, interactive way to create memories.
When it came to photography, Robin and David had one main request: they wanted their photos to reflect the real emotions and experiences of the day. As event professionals, they were used to being in the spotlight but didn’t want their wedding to feel like a performance. Instead, they prioritized being present with each other and their guests. The resulting images captured every heartfelt moment, from laughter with friends to quiet, meaningful glances between the couple.
Robin and David’s wedding was a celebration of love, creativity, and resilience. Every detail, from the handmade plant centerpieces to the whimsical floral designs, reflected their unique story. Surrounded by their closest friends and family, they turned a potential work event into a deeply personal celebration that no one will soon forget.
