You might be thinking, no way – but yep, you read that right – disposable camera engagement photos in Newport Beach are my latest obsession, and I’m so excited to share what we created!
I photographed this entire session on a Kodak Funsaver, an Ilford HP5 and partially on a roll of Fujifilm 400 using a little point and shoot Olympus film camera. As a primarily digital photographer, I became laser-focused on film during the second half of quarantine/pandemic life. The reality is, sometimes the format of shoot-review-edit-export-upload gets tedious, and the artist in me starts to feel antsy. Film has been a unique way of letting me do what I love (photography) but with the challenge of a different medium. I’m so lucky to have people like Mark and Ireland around who trust my vision and are down for anything!
I’m so grateful to say that I’ve gotten to photograph Mark and Ireland throughout every life stage they’ve experienced as a couple. From photos of their college graduation and when they were just dating to their engagement pictures to their wedding and now finally some lifestyle photos of them in their home in Costa Mesa, it’s been a ride! These two are some of the kindest and most hospitable people. They’ve gone from clients and acquaintances to very dear friends.
Mark and Ireland have a sweet pup named Dume that you’ll see featured in these photos. Sometimes we call him Dumey! He’s super energetic so the fact that we got any good photos of him that aren’t blurry is truly a miracle.
As you can tell from these pictures, Mark and Ireland have the best taste in home design. It’s simple but modern and still cozy. Ever the creative ones, they opted to turn their garage into a tiki bar. Naturally, we had to get some photos of them making drinks! I can’t wait for them to be able to show their future kids how cool their first pad was together.

Soon there will be an engagement session where I’ll be the photographer with a digicam. So this article gave me courage that I’m not a heretic of the photography industry 😃
