Sophie and Kade celebrated their destination wedding in Brittany, France along with their loved ones in the ultra-charming town of Fougères. This destination wedding was absolutely picturesque. Between the rolling hills of the countryside and the classic small-town elegance, the backdrop was stunning.
The day before their wedding, Sophie and Kade took me on an adventure to capture stunning wedding photos at Mont. Saint-Michel. It was truly a fairytale come to life!
Starting with a fun fact: I have been childhood friends with Sophie since we were six years old. So, I was ecstatic when she asked me to photograph her destination wedding in Europe. She has had roots in both France and America growing up. With deep ties, it was only natural for her to choose the family home and working brewery Brasserie La Boyere in Fougeres as the backdrop for her destination wedding. All her French family came to celebrate this moment with them.
First day of festivities were kicked off with a relaxed rehearsal dinner at a local crepe restaurant. This set the tone for the intimate gathering of family and friends. The rustic charm of the restaurant provided the perfect atmosphere for heartfelt conversations and laughter, creating an ambiance that resonated with the couple’s easygoing nature. Both sisters of the bride and groom are musicians, and so, Kade’s sister played the guitar and Sophie’s sister sang. It was such a sweet performance and added a sentimental touch for the occasion.
Some sweet moments captured of Sophie and Kade getting ready before the ceremony.
Guests arriving before the ceremony started. It was a lovely day in the French countryside!
On the wedding day, the ceremony took place at the Jardin public de Fougères, a serene garden. The grounds offered that classic, french setting for the ceremony. Lush greenery and blooming flowers provided a natural, understated beauty, complemented by the medieval chateau. The surroundings could speak for themselves!
The couple exchanged vows in both English and French. The bilingual ceremony brought in a cultural element that was special for Sophie and Kade as a couple and also allowed the English and French speaking guests to all understand the ceremony.
Following the ceremony, the newlyweds got in a classic car and paraded through the small town. It was a charming detail that brought the community together! Locals joined in with the family, as the couple passed by, symbolizing the town’s collective happiness for the newlyweds.
Later, as the evening approached, the reception really came to life. Between the lively music, heartfelt toasts and the love being celebrated, you could feel the joy for the couple. Amidst all the laughter and dancing of the night, family and friends were in full celebration mode. There was no shortage of dancing!
Even Sophie’s Grampy, who is 101 years old, danced the night away! The party continued into the early hours of the morning, a traditional French way of celebrating the newlyweds.
In the end, Sophie and Kades wedding day was a timeless celebration. Fun-filled moments all captured and genuine love celebrated. It was so sweet to see the familial roots and their story unfold in the quaint town that had deep meaning. I, along with family and friends, could really feel the presence of pure joy! It was an honor to capture this wedding. Two souls coming together as one in a meaningful place surrounded by all the people they love.
“We hired Erin to photograph our wedding in France, and she blew us away! She was so organized before and during the trip, made sure she had all necessary info before leaving, and had plans for keeping the photos safe during her travels back home before editing. At the wedding, she was able to capture the best pictures despite half our guests speaking little to no English. She was charismatic, professional, and made everyone feel like a star in front of the camera! She blended in on the dance floor to get some amazing action shots, and all our guests loved her – she truly captured the happiness, love, and excitement of the day in all her photos! We also had Erin take portraits of us at a different location the day before the wedding, and her creativity really shone through! She was flexible with our plans (within reason ) and did an amazing job directing our poses to get the best photos. We worked with Erin for our engagement photos as well, and we will never use another photographer – she just keeps getting better!” -Sophie (Bride)
