Noah James and Norma Torrey celebrated their fairytale, renaissance-themed Calamigos Ranch wedding in Malibu at The Oak Room. This day felt sincere, joyful, and surrounded by love! Beyond the pure happiness this pair exuded all day, I was struck by the deep color palette and intricate details chosen to transport the guests from the Malibu canyon to another time and place that felt Shakespearean and romantic.
Love stories often take shape in the most unexpected places, and for the couple, it all began at the Santa Monica Theater in Los Angeles. Their paths converged under the theater’s bright lights! Noah’s twinkle, deep voice, and hearty laugh caught Norma’s attention, and set the stage for their story. It makes perfect sense that their wedding feels so fairytale-like, practically could be out of a Shakespearean play. On their first date, Norma, unwilling to part without a goodbye kiss, embraced the moment and amid a light rain shower which was a rare occurrence in sunny Los Angeles they shared their first kiss. Truly a cinematic moment for the two!
The proposal took place in San Francisco, a city that held a special place in their hearts. It was where they had their first trip together in 2015. In front of The Conservatory of Flowers, Noah asked Norma to marry him. Norma’s resounding ‘yes’ set the stage for their continued love story. Noah says, “I had a feeling back then, that if I was ever fortunate enough to propose to Norma, I wanted it to be right there at that spot.”
Next, Norma shares, “when it came to the details and planning, Noah, like many grooms, initially gave me free rein. However, when I presented options, he became quite selective, preferring modern choices over traditional ones. This actually helped because I struggled with decision-making and appreciated his input. Noah had a knack for finding options quickly. For instance, after weeks of searching for venues across different states, I couldn’t find the right one. When I let him take over, he found the perfect venue on his first try- The Oak Room at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California.” The venue was ideal due to its natural beauty, abundant natural light and rustic charm, which created a romantic ambiance for celebrating with loved ones. The details from flowers to decor were absolutely perfect! We used The Little Branch Florist and she far exceeded my expectations.” This Calamigos Ranch wedding in Malibu could not have been more perfect as the backdrop for Norma and Noah’s celebration.
On their wedding day, the couple shared that “they felt blessed to be surrounded by a family full of love, for them that was truly priceless.” Among the cherished highlights was the anniversary dance, a tradition that saw couples take to the dance floor to celebrate enduring love. The last two couples standing were Noah’s parents, with 34 years of marriage, and Norma’s grandparents, a remarkable 70 years together. It was a touching testament to the joy of being surrounded by a loving family.
As they reflect on their own story, Noah and Norma offer words of wisdom. Noah underscores the significance of collaboration, emphasizing that the combined efforts of both partners yield the best results, making the journey itself an enriching experience. Norma, on the other hand, highlights the value of honest and open communication, an essential pillar of a healthy relationship. She shares how initially guarding her heart gave way to trust, leading to the best decision she ever made.
In the heart of Malibu, Noah and Norma’s love story unfolded with authenticity and sincerity! I loved their journey from the theater to the oak room to be married. Their authentic connection and genuine love are so powerful- you can see it through all these photos. Cheers to the happy couple!
“We hired Erin to be our wedding photographer and she was absolutely phenomenal! I can be very camera shy but her energy made me feel very comfortable the entire day.
We were very satisfied with the number of photos and quality of the moments captured. She was always in the right place at the right time. We got everything we wanted and more! Loved the film images as well, added a nostalgic quality to some of my favorite moments.
If you are considering Erin as your photographer, she is absolutely worth every penny!!
THANK YOU ERIN!!” – Norma
“We are so thankful Erin took our wedding photos, she brought such a good energy to the day. Warm, positive, fun! She handled the big family photos better than I ever could have expected, and navigated some family situations that could have been tense with extreme ease and poise. She was AWESOME. Cannot recommend enough, the photos turned out so well!!!” -Noah
